The Wabanaki is the technical term for all four federally recognized tribes residing in the state of Maine; Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet and Mi'kmaq Nations. Oftentimes all four tribes come together to fight for indigenous rights in Maine as an alliance and we share customs and languages as well as family. Turtle Island is the more modern term used by many indigenous peoples of North America to refer to all of North America.
